SIMPLE BUT EFFECTIVE EXERCISE...

VERY SIMPLE
BUT EFFECTIVE EXERCISE
FOR PREVENTION OF DEMENTIA !!

SIMPLE BUT EFFECTIVE EXERCISE
The essence of the exercise is that your "Eyes Must be Closed"
when you are doing this exercise. You must practise the
"Jin Ji Du Li" exercise wit the eyes closed. This exercise was
so simple and amazing that I thought I had to share it here.

Here is the exercise:
Stand on one leg while your eyes are closed. That is all.
Just try it right now, stop reading and stand up, close
your eyes and try standing on one foot.

Fun & Info @ Keralites.net

If you are not able to stand for less than 10 seconds,
it means that your body has degenerated to 60 to 70
years old level in other words, you may be only 40 years
old, but your body has aged a lot faster.

I tried this exercise myself when I read the mail.
I thought “oh, big deal, I’m sure I can do this easily”
I was fooling myself, I’m glad I tried it because I discovered
much to my surprise that while I could stand easily on one
foot with my eyes open, trying the same thing with my
eyes closed was another story! I just could not keep my
balance for more than two to three seconds before I
started wobbling and hopping around.

You do not need to lift your leg high, if your internal
organs are out of sync, even lifting your leg this bit
will make you wobble.

Now this was quite scary because it told me that my
body was almost 60 years old and here was me, barely
into my forties! These Chinese are really very advanced
in their knowledge of the human body. It was very
heartening to know that frequent and regular practice
can help you recover your sense of balance. In fact
Chinese specialists suggest daily practice of Jin Ji Du Li
for 1 minute, this helps prevent dementia.
You can try slightly closing both eyes while practicing
Jin Ji Du Li, instead of completely closing them; in fact
this is what the health specialist Zhong Li Ba Ren
recommends.Fun & Info @ Keralites.net
Daily practice of Jin Ji Du Li, can help in healing many
illnesses or diseases like

  • Hypertension,
  • High Blood Sugar or diabetes,
  • Neck and Spinal diseases,
  • it can also prevent you from getting dementia.
Zhong Li Ba Ren has written a book titled "Self Help is
Better than Seeking Doctors' Help", which is a bestselling
book that has been the best seller health book in China
since it was first published last year. Its success can be
measured by the fact that it has been reprinted 12 times
within 6 months, with more than 1 million copies sold.
The book is a hot seller because it teaches many simple
practical health tips.

It is said that according to the understanding of Chinese
physicians, diseases appear in the body because the
coordination between the various internal organs encounter
problems and that causes the body to lose its balance.
Jin Ji Du Li can readjust this inter-relationship of the
organs and how they function with each other. Zhong
Li Ba Ren stated that many people can't stand on one
foot with their eyes closed for even 5 seconds, but later
on as they practice it daily, are able to stand for more
than 2 minutes.

As you gain ability to stand for longer time, the feeling
of "head heavy, light feet” disappears. As benefits or
practising Jin Ji Du Li, you will experience that the
quality of sleep improves, the mind clears up and memory
improves significantly. Most importantly if you can
practice Jin Ji Du Li with your eyes closed for 1 minute
every day, you will not get dementia. (I think it this also
means the brain will remain healthy).

Zhong Li Ba Ren explained that there are 6 important
meridians passing through our legs. When you stand on
a single leg, the weak meridian will feel sore while getting
the necessary exercise, and as this happens, the
corresponding organs of these meridians and their
path-ways, start getting the necessary tuning. This method
can focus or concentrate the awareness, and channel the
body's qi to the foot. The beneficial effects of practising
Jin Ji Du Li on various illnesses associated with hypertension,
diabetes, neck and spinal diseases are quick to be seen
and felt. Jin Ji Du Li can also prevent gout.

Jin Ji Du Li helps to Strengthen body Immunity rapidly
Jin Ji Du Li it is suitable for everyone generally. It is the
basic cure for "Cold Feet Disease” and it can also
strengthen the body’s immunity. You do not have to wait
until you have any illness to start practising Jin Ji Du Li.
It is especially beneficial for young people, when they
practice it daily while they are healthy, so that their
chances of contracting the various illness associated with
ageing is comparatively lower.
Please note that it is not suitable for people over 70 years old, or those old people whose legs are not strong and cannot stand steadily.

Medical scheme to cater to senior citizens whose children live abroad

The following article m,ay be of interest to Indians Living
overseas and whose aged parents are home alone in India

TREND R. Hari Ramesh has developed a unique medical scheme to cater to
senior citizens whose children live abroad. PRINCE FREDERICK catches
up with the general physician and geriatrician

R.Hari Ramesh is rudely woken up in the middle of the night by the
piercing ring of his cellphone. The caller is in panic. Speaking in
accented English, he says “Doc, there is an emergency at home. My mom
is not answering my calls. I am worried!” Dr. Hari checks on the old
lady who lives in Chennai with a fulltime helper and reports to her
anxious NRI son: “She is fine. She was sleeping too soundly to hear
the phone. The helper is on a day's leave.”

Dr. Hari is not upset by the false alarm. Like many others, this NRI
has paid him a retainer to keep a watch on his parent in Chennai. The
service includes carrying out a variety of medical check-ups and also
attending to emergencies. The general physician and geriatrician has
built a unique medical practice, catering to ‘NRI parents' around
Adyar and Thiruvanmiyur by entering into annual medical contracts.

For a fixed sum of $ 1000 per annum, Dr. Hari and his team will
regularly visit senior citizens signed on the programme and conduct a
series of tests (including ECG, blood sugar, blood pressure),
supervise the intake of prescribed drugs (if necessary) and conduct
master health check-ups. The package includes a 24-hour doctor-on-call
and ambulance service, and the online relay of the health status of
these patients to their NRI children.

The health package was born out of the concerns frequently voiced by
NRI children of Dr. Hari's patients. The doctor sensed a demand for it
around 12 years ago. While he has been accepting requests for a 24/7
care of such senior citizens for many years now, it is only recently
that it evolved into a comprehensive medical service scheme, which he
calls ‘Home Health Care'. While his medical programme remains
committed to its original goal of serving aged parents of NRIs, it
also caters to other seniors. “We also offer packages tailored for the
slightly different needs faced by senior citizens whose children are
with them.”

Dr. Hari admits that he is not building on an original concept. He
traces his work to what is well-entrenched in Indian society: the idea
of the family physician.

“What we do basically is go to the patient and take care of him/her,
but we have added newer dimensions to this familiar concept to address
the complications of modern life, one of which is aged parents living
alone. It is only going to get more complicated in the future. In
2020, the biggest socio-medico-economic problem in India is not going
to be HIV-AIDS or tuberculosis or any other condition. It's going to
be old age. As a result of medical advancements, life expectancy in
India keeps going up. When people live longer, they tend to develop
degenerative conditions that make them dependant on others.”
Dr. Hari is convinced that preventive or prophylactic pre-paid care of
the aged is the model of the future. Given its rich potential, he
persists with it despite encountering certain problems while
practising it. “Often, the opposition to this model comes from the
patients themselves. The majority of seniors don't warm up to the idea
of being visited by a doctor when they are not in any form of
distress. The service often serves the goal of preventive care, which
is lost on most seniors.”

The NRI children have, however, extended rock-solid support to Dr.
Hari. One of them, Raghu Ram, wants the doctor to take this service to
the other parts of the city and is willing to work with him towards
this end. The plan involves introducing this service in other
localities, including Mylapore, T. Nagar, Kodambakkam, Nungambakkam,
Velachery and Anna Nagar. “From Anna Nagar to Adyar” is how Dr. Hari
refers to this initiative. Among the features planned to be added to
the care of the aged are home monitoring gadgets — including
geo-fencing aids and warning relay instruments — and advanced
electronic medical records.

Dr. Hari is also indirectly spreading this model beyond Chennai.
“Doctors in Mumbai and Delhi have contacted me and inquired about this
model and I have only been too glad to help them adopt it. It's not
good to keep a good thing confined to a city.”

Nutmeg Health!!!

Nutmeg (known as Jaiphal in India) is generally taken for granted in
recipes like that of cakes and bakes. But did you take its health
effects granted too?
I underestimated the values of nutmeg thinking that it was just a
spice to perk up the flavour in soups, soufflés and cakes. If it was
not available in the store, I never tried to hunt it down in the
market too. Though substantially not proven, the health benefits of
nutmeg are many in the ancient beliefs. Modern research shows that
some of the health benefits are indeed true, if used in moderation.
The Ancient Beliefs

Nutmeg is a remedy for stomach cramps
It can alleviate cardio vascular problems
It can be a cure to plague
A great brain tonic to stimulate the brain
It can cure gastric problems, soothe stomach ache, stop diarrhoea
and vomiting, and also enhance appetite
Provide relief to asthma, cold and cough
An excellent liver tonic to help detoxification

The Modern Findings
Nutmeg can be used in the powdered form or as an oil taken from the
seed of the plant. The nutmeg oil is a volatile essential oil used as
a sedative, stimulant, relaxing, anti inflammatory, antiseptic and
bactericide. It contains myristicin, elemicin, eugenol, and safrole.
Other than for flavouring, due to its medicinal benefits it also has a
significant presence in cosmetics, cough syrups, tooth pastes and the
like.

The anti inflammatory properties makes nutmeg a great remedy for
treating muscular aches, joint pains and sores. Topical use is
recommended for instant pain relief from arthritis, rheumatism,
lumbago etc.
Using nutmeg in food will help your digestive system by aiding
digestion, removing gas from stomach and intestine and curing
flatulence.
Instant stress relief is another benefit of using nutmeg wisely.
It will tone the brain and enhance mental activity.
As you relax and optimize your sleep with its sedative effect,
nutmeg also works to lower your blood pressure.
The anti bacterial properties of nutmeg kill the cavity causing
bacteria in the mouth and keep mouth odour at bay. Treat toothaches by
keeping a few drops of nutmeg oil in a cotton swab on the aching
tooth!
Use nutmeg oil as a cold rub for relief from colds and coughs!
For kidney health and liver health, nutmeg is believed to be a
good detoxifier if used in moderation.

Safety Concerns
A pinch or two can be used in the cuisine to spice up the dishes. A
little extra would be fatal. It is not advisable to use nutmeg powder
or oil if you are pregnant or are lactating though its use in culinary
at that time should be harmless.
Use and Storage
Always use freshly ground nutmeg powder for your cuisine. Grate the
pod only when needed as a pod can remain fresh for a year. Store
nutmeg in an airtight container and the used pod in a plastic wrap to
retain its oil content.

Healthy cooking secrets !!!

Instead of frying the pappad just apply oil or ghee on the pappad and keep it in the MW. you will get very nice fried one with in a min. Try this.

You can do this for 'kuzh vathal' and also 'Javvaasi vathal' also. In my family we do this often.

For cheese toast or for other dishes use melted or grilled cheese. Use grated cheese instead of slices; you’ll use less.

Instead of potato chips, make potato wedges, and bake them in the oven instead of frying.

Try using other veges instead of – or combined with – potatoes for interesting mash. Pumpkin, chow chow or onion or cauliflower all make tasty and healthy mash. You can use any type of greens also in this.
Grated fruit and vegetables like apple, carrot and beetroot can replace some of the sugar and fat in baking recipes.

Wholemeal flour can substitute for white flour in baking and adds fiber. Experiment with your favorite recipes: start by replacing a quarter of the white flour with wholemeal. Up to two-thirds of the flour in most recipes could be wholemeal.

Icing on cakes can be replaced with a combination of filtered yogurt and honey, fruit or drinking chocolate.

Add chopped dates or figs to replace some of the sugar in cakes and slices. These add a chewy texture and extra fiber.

While making custard, always use low fat milk. You won’t notice it in the final product.

Plain yogurt is delicious when served with some grated fruit. Add a little grated, dark chocolate for an extra touch, for children.

For a good breakfast in a hurry: - fruit, yogurt, milk and oats for a complete breakfast in a drink.
